“My Boiler is making a weird noise”

Why can this happen ?

There are numerous reasons why your boiler could be making weird noises. One of the most common reasons is overheating. Is your boiler making high-pitched noises, frequently breaking down, not turning on when it needs to, or shutting off when you don't want it to? It could be overheating, which might be a sign that it's time for a new boiler.

This can also be known as “kettling” where the main heat exchanger gets blocked or the pipe work leading to the boiler is blocked, meaning the water can not circulate around the system and causing the boiler to over heat and switch off. If left without attention this will cause more serious problems to the boiler.

Other weird noises can be caused by leaks within the boiler or the airing cupboard, especially if you have a pressured system. For example if a pipe within the boiler pin holes, a small stream of water will spray out which can sound very weird and eventually you will notice water under the boiler. If left it can cause electrical problems with the boiler and of course water damage.
